Monday's Class

          Yesterday in class we discusses the "Goate Bucks" activity we did. Many of us, including myself we pretty confused when doing this activity. Dr. Goate's explained the activity and told us how an authority structure is built into the exercise. I didn't notice at first, but the way he displayed our groups up on the projector created a sense that the people at the top were more important than the people on the bottom. The different levels of groups created a degrading feeling. The top people had a lot of resources and more info, and the bottom people were not recognized for their work. He then told our class that  we were rather "boring" when doing the activity because we mostly stuck to what our roles said we had to do. We identified a potential reason of this and found that we all have relatively high GPA's, so we are more likely to comply with authority figures. I found this interesting because we are all motivated by our grades and not willing to jeopardise our grades.
